What Is Faith Promise Giving?

To some Faith Promise is a brand new concept. There are others who have been involved in Faith Promise, but maybe never really understood the concept. They got involved because that is the method their church uses to fund their missionary work. The best way to explain it is to look at each word.

FAITH: The Bible has much to say on this subject.

We are saved by faith: Ephesians 2:8-9

We are secure because of faith: 1 Peter 1:5 ‘

We please God by faith: Hebrews 11:6

Should there not be an element of faith in our giving?

2 Corinthians 8:1 -3 tells us the churches of Macedonia were able to give beyond their own ability. How is that possible? The remainder of chapters 8 and 9 make it clear that faith was involved.

PROMISE: This word means commitment.

After prayerful consideration, the individual makes a commitment to God concerning their giving. It is normally a one-year commitment. Faith Promise cards are filled out so the church will have an idea of what their missions budget will be for the next 12 months. It is not a pledge. It is a commitment you make to God.

OFFERING: This gift is above your regular giving to the operational expenses of your church.

The money given through Faith Promise is for the missionary endeavors of your church.

Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together; and running over; shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again. -Luke 6:38

Faith Promise Devotional

Introduction

Paul commended the churches of Macedonia because they were able to give beyond their ability. How is that possible? The answer is to learn to give by faith.

In the mid-1950, a Canadian Pastor, Oswald J. Smith, started to promote faith giving for world evangelization. He popularized mission conferences and an annual challenge to churches to do more to send the Gospel to the regions beyond. This plan, Faith Promise Giving, has become the foundation for missionary giving for many churches today.

It is important that you read each verse found in these devotions and ask the Lord to help you apply the truth found in each lesson. It is important to pray for understanding and a willing heart to be challenged by Faith Promise Giving. Ideally, this devotional booklet should be used during the four weeks before the Faith Promise Commitments are made.

Hebrews 11:6 says, But without faith it is impossible to please Him. Every believer should have a desire in their heart to please and serve God. As our faith increases, our spiritual life should prosper. Faith Promise is more about building believers than it is raising money.

James 2:18 says, Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: show me thy faith without thy works, and I will show thee my faith by my works. The reality of our faith lived through our lives speaks much louder than words that are not followed by actions. Faith Promise can change your life. Please consider taking this step of faith in your life!
